Faculty Scholar Program

The Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI), the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and the Simons Foundation announce a joint national competition for grants to outstanding early career scientists as Faculty Scholars.

The Faculty Scholars program seeks to:

  • Provide financial support to faculty at an early career stage.
  • Select awardees based on their vision and potential for unique contributions.
  • Offer mentoring and career development.

Awardees will receive a five-year, non-renewable grant whose size will be based on several factors, including the amount of external funding the scientist has at the time of the grant. The grants will range from $100,000 to $400,000 per year for direct costs.

There are no limits on the number of applicants or awardees from any eligible institution, and candidates apply directly without an institutional nomination. Both basic researchers and physician scientists are welcome in this open competition.

For more information on eligibility, award and budget criteria, and application due dates and forms, see the Faculty Scholars Program website.
